Clinical leadership

A clinical lead for your service, without a full-time hire.

Many services need clinical leadership but not a full-time clinical lead. A fractional clinical lead gives you a named, experienced clinician for an agreed amount of time each week or month, who oversees the clinical side of your service and signs off what needs a clinician's signature.

Who it is for

For services that need clinical oversight, not a full-time post.

Home care, complex care and supported living services that deliver delegated healthcare tasks.

Growing services that need clinical oversight before they can justify a full-time post, and registered managers who don't come from a clinical background.

What is included, agreed with you

  • Clinical oversight of care plans and risk assessments for people with complex needs
  • Delegated healthcare tasks: protocols, training and competency sign-off
  • Incident, safeguarding and deterioration review, with learning fed back to staff
  • Clinical input to audits, governance meetings and your action plan
  • Supervision and support for staff on clinical questions
  • Records kept in Eviqa Assure if you use it

How it works

  1. Free call

What your service does, your risks and how much clinical time you need.

  2. Agreed scope

The days, the responsibilities and how to reach us between visits, all in writing.

  3. Regular days

Your clinical lead works with your team on the agreed days, on site or remotely.

  4. Review

A regular report on what was done, what was found and what comes next.

In real life

One day a week, and the sign-offs stay in date.

A supported living service with eight people. Three of them need delegated tasks: epilepsy rescue medication, PEG feeding and diabetes monitoring.

The service has a clinical lead one day a week. Sign-offs are kept up to date, new staff are assessed before they cover those people, and incidents get a clinical review within the week.

Led by Adam Wiles, registered paramedic and former CQC registered manager, who has been through the CQC registration interview more than once.

Common questions

How much time do we get?

From one day a month. Most providers start with two to four days a month, set out in a simple agreement you can change with a month's notice.

Is this the same as interim cover?

No. Interim cover fills a gap for a set period. A fractional clinical lead is an ongoing, part-time role. See interim clinical lead.

Can you be our registered manager?

No. This service provides clinical leadership, not a registered manager.

Who delivers it

Delivered personally by Adam Wiles, registered paramedic and former CQC registered manager.
